Despite the dust and disruption, our basement remodel had churned some real treasures to the surface. This particular gem is one of my favorites.
I remember when these came out, the SRAM 9.0SL “Betsy” edition were some of the hottest mountain bike parts around. Perhaps a bit on the tacky side, but very unique and rare none the less.

Today we are halfway through our Basement Sale, and yet the gems still surface. Many have come looking for something, and many have left with something they never thought they’d find. Above all, expect the unexpected.
I addition to priceless classic bits for pennies on the dollar, there’s also complete NEW bikes and clothing on sale too. Don’t forget to ask about the HALF PRICE SHOES!!! There were still some regular sizes left.
Rain or shine, tomorrow is the day for you to dig in, get your hands dirty, and find the part you’ve been looking for. We’ll let you wash up so you can try on a jersey or two. Happy hunting!
Over the weekend I went to the SFBC’s annual winter fundraiser, the SFBC is our local bike advocacy and awareness group. If you’ve never been, it’s a good time with music, beverages from New Belgium, and a whole lotta bike lovers. This year to support the SFBC, we teamed up with Soma Fabrications, then put together and donated one of the most anticipated bikes around, the Buena Vista, for their silent auction.
It’s no suprise that this beauty sold for full value in no time, and American Cyclery is proud to support the SFBC with a bike of such class and distiction. If you missed out on this one, c’mon down to the shop. We’re now taking orders…

With the gaining popularity of freestyle fixed gears around San Francisco, we see a lot of bikes retrofitted with 650c front wheels. This being to gain the necessary clearance for bar spins, but doing so drops the front end and steepens the head angle.
We don’t imagine this does any favors to the bike’s handling, so we had Waterford Cycles in Wisconsin build us this concept frame which has a geometry and fork designed around a 650c front wheel. Thus making a bar-spinable fixed gear that handles like a bike oughta, and a genuine purpose specific freestyle fixie! Modeled by Dani, who takes special pride in this one since she assembled it.
